Overview

Sikkim is a small and beautiful state in Northeast India. Bordered by Bhutan, Tibet, and Nepal, this little state has a storehouse of unbelievable beauty and dramatic landscapes. Sikkim is well known as the land of Mt. Kanchenjunga. The captivating natural terrains, religious hubs, adventure sports, and vibrant regional culture are the main attractions here. The kingdom of Sikkim was founded by the Namgyal Dynasty during the 17th century.

Countless historical sites, monasteries, temples, culture, and expansive virgin forests enrich the beauty of the state. People often regard it as a peaceful hilly escape from the hot and humid summers of the country, and undoubtedly one of the best places in India.


How to reach Sikkim

By Air : The nearest airport to Sikkim is Bagdogra. The distance between these two places is 139.8 km. It will take almost 5 hours to reach Sikkim by car from Bagdogra Airport.

By Rail : The nearest railway station is New Jalpaiguri(NJP). Several tourist vehicles are available from the NJP to reach Sikkim.

By Road : Darjeeling is a well-connected major city in North-Eastern India. It takes almost 5 hours to reach Sikkim from Siliguri, covering a distance of 130.9 km.

Attractions of Sikkim :


Gangtok

Gangtok is the first choice for visitors while in Sikkim. The capital of Sikkim perched beautifully at a height of 5500 feet. The town is a beautiful square. Being centrally located, Gangtok is ideal for covering several sightseeing places.

Khecheopalri Lake

Khecheopalri Lake is a notable place among travelers. It is supposed to be related to the holy Buddhist monk Guru Padmasambhava. The lake is located at a distance of around 147 km from Gangtok.

Buddha Park

Buddha Park is an excellent masterpiece and so much popular among visitors. It is one of the best statues of Lord Buddha in the Eastern Indian region. Erected to celebrate the birth anniversary of Lord Buddha, this place adds immense value to the pilgrimage tours of Sikkim.

Bakthang Waterfall

Bakthang Waterfall is around 3 kilometers away from the capital of Gangtok. Situated in North Sikkim, it is famous for its marvelous beauty. The waterfall is a great place to be in Sikkim, especially if you have arranged your vacation to escape from Summer.

Yumthang Valley

Referred to as the Valley of Flowers, Yumthang is one of the loveliest places in Sikkim. Along with beautiful surroundings, it has an exciting balance of Flora and Fauna. Hot springs, rivers, valleys, and even yaks that stroll the breathtaking meadows are the specialty of this area.

Nathula Pass

Drawing the border of India and China, the Nathula Pass is a great tourist place. It is considered one of the highest altitude points in Sikkim. This area is mostly covered with snow and requires prior permits.

Changu Lake

The crystal clear pristine lake of Changu freezes completely during the winters. It is a glacial lake that is very popular among travelers. Lying at an altitude of 12310 feet, Chhangulake is around 35 km far from the capital of Gangtok.

Gurudongmar

Lying at an altitude of 17800 ft., Gurudongmar is one of the highest-altitude lakes in India. It is scenically peaceful, making it a must-visit point. Being situated near the border, it requires a permit to explore the lake area.
